6 Week Season Prep Classes
The goal of Legacy’s 6 week season prep classes is to educate new Athletes what a competitive cheer season would feel like and includes a performance in the gym, the final week. These classes are more intense than our Learn to Cheer and Tumble Program and will demonstrate the sport of cheer including, dancing, tumbling, stunting, jumping and having fun as a team. The cost for the 6 week program is $100 plus HST ($115.00). Program starts Friday April 10th, 2020.
Week 1 – LIB
The LIB or Liberty is a basic cheerleading stunt that is used by flyers in several base positions. This is a general overview of the basic cheer motions of a liberty, from the ground. A LIB is typically made up of 5 athletes, the Flyer, 2 Bases, a back and a front. The LIB Sequence will combine Level 1 & Level 2 skills.
Week 2 – Jump Sequence
This session will focus on creating a jump sequence with choreography (often referred to as choreo). The Athletes will focus on 4 common jumps required in competitive routines. They will start with 3 jumps, followed by choreo, single jump, choreo, which then leads into running tumbling.
Week 3 – Running Tumbling
Tumbling is a very important part of competitive cheerleading. The term tumbling is used to describe gymnastic elements such as cartwheels, walkovers, round offs and backhand springs. There are two equally important components of tumbling: standing and running. For these prep classes, we will do a running tumbling pass that will be synchronized, standing tumbling and opening choreo.
Week 4 –Dance
Dance is a part of cheerleading that allows Coaches to create a choreographed routine that they hope will wow judges in competitions. For this session, Athletes will learn a six 8 count routine with sharp motions and high energy. Learning to perform in a cheerleading routine is half the battle. The dance element of a routine allows our Athletes a chance to show their individual personality and flair. This is their time to shine.
Week 5 – Review
This will be the time when the previous 4 segments come together and the Athletes begin to practice their routine.
Week 6 – Review & Perform
In the final class, Athletes will continue practising their routine. At the end of this class, they will perform the routine to music for their Families.
